Gifts of Securities

Stock Gifts

An outright gift of appreciated securities to Philadelphia Theatre Company is a quick and easy way to make a meaningful gift, avoid capital gains tax, and receive an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock (the average of the high and low price of the stock on the date that it was received). The following information will enable your broker to facilitate an electronic transfer of stock:
  • Oppenheimer & Co., Inc.
    Attn: Frank Osinski, Jr.
    60 N. Main Street, Suite 200
    Doylestown, PA 18901
    Phone: 215.348.8104
    Account Name: Philadelphia Theatre Company

It is important that you notify the Theatre in advance of making a gift of securities. Without such notice, gifts of stocks may be transferred to PTC with the identity of the donor unknown, making proper credit and timely acknowledgement extremely difficult. If you require more assistance on making a transfer of securities, please contact Gina DeGiovanni at 215.985.1400 x110 or gdegiovanni@philadelphiatheatrecompany.org.

Gifts of stock may also be made to PTC to fund a life income plan, such as a charitable remainder annuity trust or charitable remainder unitrust that pays annual income to you or another beneficiary before PTC receives the remainder.

IRA

Congress has extended the IRA charitable rollover. A charitable gift made directly from an IRA will not be taxed as income as long as:
  • The gift is made in 2008 or 2009
  • The IRA holder is 70-½ or older
  • The gift totals $100,000 or less each year
  • The charity is eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions (PTC is)
  • The charity is not a section 509(a)(3) supporting organization (PTC is not)
  • The withdrawal goes directly from the IRA to the charity
The donor does not need to itemize his or her taxes to take advantage of the rollover. If the donor does itemize, however, he or she cannot also take the contribution as a deduction.

The Ovation Society

The Ovation Society has been created to ensure that Philadelphia Theatre Company (PTC), now a prominent and permanent landmark on the Avenue of the Arts, continues to present the finest in new American theater for future generations. You can become a part of The Ovation Society by including PTC in your estate plans.
