STAGES New Play Reading Series

For over 30 years, Philadelphia Theatre Company has been introducing audiences to some of the finest and most innovative new plays by living American playwrights. Through our STAGES program, we have developed over 80 new works for the stage, over half of which have gone on to publication or production on our stages and others.

Eight years after a Cuban mother loses custody of her Jewish daughter she is given a second chance. At 4:30 in the morning she kidnaps the sick teenage girl and the two drive west in search of a remedy and their divergent American dreams. "Charming, spunky, and ultimately heart-rending... the car trip from Paoli, Pa., to Yellowstone Park is transforming and restorative." (New York Times)

Quiara Alegria Hudes is a two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist (In The Heights and Elliott, A Soldier's Fugue) and Philadelphia-raised playwright whose first play was produced by Philadelphia Young Playwrights when she was in the tenth grade.
