An Uncommon Woman: Feminism and the Legacy of Wendy Wasserstein Sunday, April 6 following 3pm matinee Very few women have had their plays produced on Broadway and Wendy Wasserstein was "uncommon" for the strides she made for female theater artists everywhere. The loss of Wendy Wasserstein in 2006 was a blow to the American theater community, not only because it marked the loss of Wasserstein's unique voice in American drama, but also because Wasserstein's work was such a watershed in feminist theater. Her 1988 play The Heidi Chronicles won both a Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize and forever changed the landscape of American and feminist theater. This panel will discuss Wasserstein's career in light of the larger American theater landscape and the ways in which her work changed and shaped theater for women. The panel will be made up of significant individuals, both friends and colleagues such as playwright Christopher Durang and Broadway set designer Heidi Ettinger, as well as local Villanova University professor and Wasserstein expert Gail Ciociola.
