Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America
Directed by Maria Mileaf

January 23 - February 22, 2004

All it takes to make it in this country is a little hard work, right? How do you survive on $6 an hour? In 1998, best-selling author Barbara Ehrenreich set out to answer that question, presenting herself as an unskilled homemaker needing to earn a living after a divorce. Working minimum wage jobs as a waitress, cleaning woman, and discount store clerk, Ehrenreich wrote a riveting account of the flip side of American prosperity. This arresting, soul-searching and often hilarious adaptation is by Joan Holden of the Tony Award-winning San Francisco Mime Troupe.
